Wood chips are pulped in 10 boilers.
The wood is mixed with white liquor (an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide and sodium sulphide) and heated to 170°C for almost 90 minutes.
The pulp is collected, washed and purified on two production lines. It is then stored in towers before it is used to make paper.
The liquid recovered from the washing process contains organic products (mainly lignin) from the wood, along with mineral products resulting from the use of the white liquor. This liquid is called weak black liquor.
